Back to School!

Tarrant County is hosting its 14thannual Back to School Round up on August 9thfrom 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. This year Walmart is aiding in sponsoring the event by providing free school supplies to 10,000 underserved school age children in the county1. In addition to this, registered families will receive health, dental, and vision screenings, immunizations, haircuts, and information on education, health and social services1. Amongst the many booths present at the event, there will also be free asthma an lead screenings for those in attendance. Screenings like this are important because they help identify children who might suffer from “Health Barriers to Learning”2. If left untreated, these barriers can negatively affect a child’s ability to receive and process information, pay attention in class, attendance, and academic performance. The accumulation of these negative consequences ultimately affect a child’s chance of graduating from high school leading to barriers in future quality of life, social, and financial stability2. Fort Worth is taking the initiative so dissolve these gaps in health by hosting this event that provides free screenings for registered families. If you want to take part in the Back to School Round Up as a registered family, volunteer, or donate to the cause, there are links below where you can sign up.
