VAQUEROS AND FITWORTH TEAM UP FOR THE FITWORTH CUP

FORT WORTH _ Most Cowtown residents know Fort Worth mayor Betsy Price is all in on fitness. Of course, it’s mandatory to be fully fit to make the Vaqueros roster.

So it’s only natural that the Fort Worth minor league soccer team and the FitWorth Healthy City Initiative team up for the FitWorth Cup during this, “The Summer of Soccer.”

The FitWorth Cup challenges local corporations to enter an adult team into the 7-versus-7 tournament the weekend of June 2-3 just days before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“Supporting the collaboration between two great Fort Worth organizations, FitWorth and the Vaqueros soccer club, is a no-brainer,” Price said. “It’s great to see the community working together to get our youth excited about being physically active, all while learning soccer skills from our local pros.”

The $1,000 registration fee benefits both the FitWorth Healthy City Initiative and the non-profit Vaqueros Youth Academy. Each team is guaranteed three games in group-play followed by semifinals and finals. Each team receives 14 official FitWorth Cup T-shirts and 20 Tickets to the Vaqueros home game on Saturday June 16. The winning teams will be recognized at the June 16th Vaqueros home game. The FitWorth Cup will be awarded to the winning company and each member will receive their own award as well.

While the tournament is for adult players, youth will be served with a FREE clinic at noon Saturday June 2. The beloved Vaqueros Village will be set up as well for youth pickup games and activities.

Vaqueros owner Michael Hitchcock said the Vaqueros are excited to partner with a great community organization in FitWorth.

“We are certain local companies will enjoy playing the world’s game at our new world class facility, Vaqueros Field at Sycamore Park,” Hitchcock said. “It’ a World Cup year so we could not think of a better time to launch this event that promotes active lifestyle and fitness through soccer.”

Noah Drew, Executive Director, the FitWorth Healthy City Initiative added, “As a group that promotes and facilitates healthy activities for children and their families, FitWorth is thrilled to be able to partner with the Vaqueros on the FitWorth Cup. While the Cup is for adults, we wanted make it a family-friendly event and our free youth clinic during the Cup will help us do that.”
