Culinary Competition Recap

This past weekend 12 teams of high school culinary arts students came together to compete in a healthy cooking competition sponsored by FitWorth, Aetna Foundation, Albertsons, and Ace Mart. The event took place at the CALF Run hosted at Will Rogers Memorial Center. Teams hailed from Fort Worth ISD’s North Side, South Hills, Polytechnic, and Keller’s Center for Advanced Learning high schools. The competitors were absolutely unflappable, cool, calm, and collected. Impressive!

The culinary competition advances FitWorth’s missions in several ways: we create healthy meal options, highlight the high school students as positive role models for the younger kids running the in the CALF Races, and provide a chance for the high school students to work closely with role models in the restaurant industry.

North Side High School nearly swept the competitions, winning top honors in the breakfast, entree, and overall categories. KCal rounded out the top teams winning the snack category. The breakfast winner prepared an eggs benedict with zucchini patties, poached eggs, and an avocado hollandaise sauce- yum! KCAL prepared some awesome tasting energy bites with yogurt dip in the snack category. The entree winner was a chicken mango curry.

All winners received a check from FitWorth for their programs, a gift certificate from Ace Mart, and a plaque to display in their schools.
