FitWorth Launches Inaugural Nutrition Challenge & Restaurant Crawl

Starting on May 26th 2014, the FitWorth Healthy City Initiative will urge community teams and families to create healthy habits by tracking how many fruits, vegetables, and glasses of water they have each day. FitWorth’s 6-week Nutrition Challenge, in partnership with Live Healthy America and Albertson’s, will run from May 26th – July 4th and is open to the entire community. The Nutrition Challenge will benefit from the momentum of the successful 10-week Wellness Challenge, in which more than 2,000 individuals participated in tracking their minutes of activity, including corporate teams. This led Fort Worth to a win against Des Moines, Iowa, and to be honored as “Wellness Capitol” in April of this year.

According to the State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, Texans only consume fruit one time a day and vegetables 1.6 times a day, on average. The Nutrition Challenge aims to increase the community’s consumption of fruits and vegetables, by providing an interactive, social and competitive outlet for individualized tracking.

This challenge will include an exciting new social component – a Downtown Fort Worth Restaurant Crawl, with a FitWorth-approved progressive dinner menu of nutritious choices at each partnering restaurant. By emphasizing the walkability of downtown Fort Worth and providing teams to track their choices in a social setting, FitWorth aims to kick-start the conversation of a culture of wellness.

Tracking will occur online at www.fitworth365.org. There is a cost per individual of $5.00 to participate, but this cost covers all 6 weeks of tracking, a FitWorth water bottle, and weekly motivational tools. Enrollment opened on May 10, 2014.
